Google, we need to talk. He ran the year 2014 and the version 39 Beta of Google Chrome when we saw for the first time the custom colors of web pages that were applied to the browser toolbar. These same colors also appeared in view of recent applications, around the time when Android still together applications and tabs.
With the disappearance of the Chrome tabs in the view of recent vanished the colored windows, but then Chrome 53 brought them back: on this occasion were displayed in the tabs open, inside Chrome tab.
This change has followed the natural flow of improvements in Chrome and four months later is now available for all Chrome 54. OK, two years have passed and now the colorful are officially open to all, tabs are how many web versions of? Google applications do they use these colors? No.
A line of code. Two years and counting.
The meta-tag “theme-color” was added in Chrome 39 in Android Lollipop. It is a simple line of code to put in the header of any web page to make the Chrome header stain that color rather than adopt the default greyish white. For example, this is the exact code present in the Mobile version of Facebook.
< meta name = “theme-color” content = “#3b5998” / >
Color #3b5998 equals blue to what Facebook and as you can see in the screenshot that accompanies this article, is quite apparent both while visiting the web as when look at the tabs in Chrome.
However, when we try the same with Google’s web applications, the result is similar to a ball of straw rolling through the desert. Normal would be that intense YouTube, Google Keep or new yellow red red Gmail is extended to the address bar. Not really. Despite being a function introduced by them two years ago, it is not entirely abandoned because it has has officially re-introduced on the tabs tab, Google has not had time to include this single line of code.
It is not because of the colors, it is for sending a message
Obviously, the problem here is not colors, which do not cease to be a mere anecdote that few people will actually miss. The problem is that Google seems incapable of lead by example, and even more so when it comes to the design of your applications or the interpretation of the philosophies of design that tries to inculcate the rest, or Holo, Material Design that follow.
It is understandable that is effort to homogenize the style of YouTube, Gmail, Keep, Google Plus and many other web applications, but if they have not even found time to include a line of code in two years, according to your own specifications, I doubt very much that this unit will arrive soon, but rather the opposite.
